County Commission – James Walch

November 1, 2024 Tagged With: election 2024, In Print Nov 2024, Jefferson County Commission

James Walch

What made you decide to run for County Commission?

I decided to run for County Commission because Jefferson County is facing some unique challenges and is at a critical point in its history.  We are now the 2nd fastest growing county in the state.  I have a deep love for Jefferson County and its residents and I want to see the county move in the right direction.  We need leadership in the county that is void of self interest and that is ready and willing to get the business of the county done.

Why should residents trust you with governing Jefferson County?

I have spent my entire life building relationships in Jefferson County. I live here, I work here, I am raising my family here. I have a real vested interest in seeing the county move in a positive direction. I am willing to work for all my constituents and with all my constituents on the right and left, and my history in the community here reflects that.

What specific experience and expertise do you have that is relevant to performing the role of County Commissioner?

I have extensive experience in team building and project execution from start to finish, two fundamental attributes to effective local government.  I am ready to get to work for the county and the people of Jefferson County.

What changes would you make to how the Commission conducts its business?

I believe the CC needs to become a more transparent body so that the people of Jefferson County  not only know what major issues are on the docket, but have the opportunity to weigh in on the issues through public comment, presence and action.  Resident input is key in creating a Jefferson County that we all want to live in.  I also believe we need to institute more regulation on big business and development.  Big business should have to pay to play in the Eastern Panhandle.  No more tax breaks and no more back room deals.

At the end of your term, what is the one thing that you would hope people remember most about your service on the Commission?

I would hope to remember the relationships that I built with the residents of Jefferson County, as well as the other commissioners.  I would also like to look back on all the positive changes we made in the county.
